Iím sure everyone has seen the movie the Karate Kid. Just to jog your memory the movie is about a teenage boy named Daniel. He had just moved to a new state and immediately has a problem at school. He is bullied both mentally and physically. The boys doing all the bullying all belong to the same karate dojo (dojo is Japanese for school). Daniel decides that if he knew karate he would be able to defend himself.

He finds a reluctant teacher, a Mister Miagi to teach him karate. Mister Miagi agrees under, one condition: Daniel must submit totally to his instruction and never question Mister Miagiís methods. Daniel agrees and shows up the next day eager to learn. To his chagrin, Mister Miagi has him paint the fencer. Mister Miagi demonstrates the precise motion for the job - up - down, up - down. Daniel takes days to finish the job.

Next Mister Miagi has him sand the deck around his house again using a prescribed motion. Daniel wonders, "What does this have to do with learning karate? But says nothing. It takes him many more days to finish the sanding. Mister Miagi tells Daniel to wash and wax three weather beaten cars and again prescribes a specific motion. Before Daniel finishes the last car he confronts Mister Miagi. "I thought you were going to teach me karate, but all youíve done is have, me do your chores."

Mister Miagi angrily replies, "I have been teaching you karate! Defend yourself!" he instructs Daniel and thrusts his arm at Daniel who instinctively defends himself with an arm motion exactly like that used in one of his chores. Mister Miagi unleashes a vicious kick, and again Daniel averts the blow with a motion used in his chores. Daniel successfully defends himself from several blows.

The moment Daniel realized he was able to successfully defend himself what was the state of his mind? Let me assure you, Daniel had a massive surge of positive mental attitude.

Earl Nightingaleís presentation Acres of Diamonds is a story of an African farmer who heard tales about other farmers who had made millions by discovering diamond mines. He sold his farm to go prospecting for diamonds. He spent the rest of his life wandering the African continent searching unsuccessfully for the diamonds of his dreams. Worn out and in a fit of despondency, he threw himself into a river and drowned.

The man who had bought his farm happened to be crossing a small stream on the property one day, and saw a bright flash from the stream bottom. He bent down and picked up a good-sized stone and brought it home.

Several weeks later a visitor picked up the stone, looked closely at it, and asked the landowner if he knew what he'd found. The landowner said, no, he thought it was a piece of crystal. The visitor told him he had found one of the largest diamonds ever discovered.

The land the first farmer had sold turned out to be one of the most productive diamond mines on the entire African continent. The first farmer had owned free and clear ... acres of diamonds. He sold the diamonds on his land for practically nothing so he could look for them elsewhere. The moral is clear: If the first farmer had only taken the time to study and prepare himself to learn what diamonds looked like in their rough state, and to thoroughly explore the property he had before looking elsewhere, all of his wildest dreams would have come true.

The secret is tenacious preparation. Just like the Karate Kid, and the old farmer you have to master some basics. And the bedrock to mastering the basics begins by reading James Allenís As a Man Thinketh. Most self help books are based on what he penned. By applying the principles in As a Man Thinketh you will build a solid foundation making it easy for you to incorporate subliminal messages, embedded commands and Neuro-linguistic Programming techniques.

James Allen wrote As a Man Thinketh in 1902. It is considered a classic self-help book. Its underlying premise is that noble thoughts make a noble person, while lowly thoughts make a miserable person. The title is influenced by a verse in the Bible from the book of Proverbs chapter 23 verse 7, "As a Man Thinketh in his heart, so he is."

As a Man Thinketh is now in the public domain within the United States and most other countries Public domain comprises the body of knowledge and innovation (especially creative works such as writing, art, music, and inventions) in relation to which no person or other legal entity can establish or maintain proprietary interests within a particular legal jurisdiction.
